A Writer's Approach to Defense
Nathan Jones joined The Johnson Firm bringing one of the most valuable skills in criminal defense: the ability to write persuasively. Whether crafting a motion to suppress, a post-trial brief, or an appellate argument, Nathan’s writing is precise, compelling, and grounded in thorough legal research. His ability to frame complex legal issues in clear, persuasive prose has been a significant advantage for clients at every stage of their cases—from pre-trial motions through appeal.
Appellate & DWI/DV Experience
Nathan has developed deep expertise in appellate advocacy, identifying preserved issues and crafting arguments that resonate with reviewing courts. His appellate experience gives the firm a critical edge: clients know that every stage of their defense is handled with the same level of skill and attention. In addition, Nathan has built particular strength in DWI/DUI defense and domestic violence cases, where he applies his analytical rigor to challenge evidence, question procedural compliance, and protect clients’ rights. He understands the science behind breath and blood testing, the nuances of field sobriety evaluations, and the complex dynamics that often underlie domestic violence allegations.
Client-Focused Defense
Nathan believes that effective criminal defense requires more than legal knowledge—it requires genuine empathy and clear communication. He takes the time to understand each client’s situation, explain the legal process in plain terms, and develop a defense strategy that reflects the client’s priorities and goals. His clients consistently praise his responsiveness, his thoroughness, and his genuine concern for their well-being throughout the legal process.
Rooted in Southwest Louisiana
Growing up in Moss Bluff, Nathan attended Sam Houston High School and has called Southwest Louisiana home his entire life. He knows the people here, understands the community, and takes pride in being someone local folks can count on.
When he’s not in court, Nathan is usually being bossed around by his two dogs: Arya, a tiny poodle with a big attitude, and Margot, a lovable Bernedoodle who thinks she’s a lap dog. Between their demands for treats, walks, and front-row seats on the couch, they keep him on his toes—and laughing.
